Utilities--Upgrade HVAC Control Systems
Description: Many buildings have obsolete control systems for the heating and air conditioning, or no system other than a thermostat, whereas new and renovated buildings are equipped with modern computerized controls.
These provide consistent temperature control, and for energy conservation allow the spaces to be scheduled in the Unoccupied Mode after normal working/teaching hours.
These systems communicate over the campus Ethernet so as to facilitate remote troubleshooting; this also enables schedule adjustments by Central Plant or building managers.
This inhouse program provides funds for the installation of up-to-date controls so as to gain the advantages described above. This past year(2006-2007) several buildings (Magruder, Walker, Music, Thompson, etc.) were upgraded (various scopes).
This program will continue for approximately ten more years.
